My path into legal nurse consulting ran through quality. By the time I made the move, I was a health systems inspector, and after nearly 30 years in nursing, my work came down to one question: did the care meet the standard?

Legal nurse consulting is that same quality work in a new setting, reading the record, finding where care deviated from the standard, and explaining clearly what happened and why. I've done it as an in-house consultant, embedded inside a legal team rather than freelancing case to case.

I'm Janice Fleming, DNP, RN, CNL, CPHQ, and I focus on the in-house path specifically, the corner of legal nurse consulting almost no one teaches, even though it's a real and stable way for nurses to put their expertise to work. I built Ascendant Consulting Services to give nurses honest, peer-to-peer guidance toward that path, from someone who's actually walked it.
